But how much does it cost to boldly go where no man has gone before?
Trekkies, rejoice! Cryptic Studios has announced the official subscription prices for their highly anticipated upcoming MMORPG, Star Trek Online.
Monthly subscriptions will run players $14.99 a pop, $41.97 for three months, $77.94 for six months, or $119.99 for an entire year's worth of play. Devoted fans can earn a permanent spot on an Enterprise bridge with a lifetime subscription, weighing in at a whopping $239.99.
Star Trek Online's lifetime and year-long subscriptions are only available via pre-order, so if you see yourself adopting a second life as a Klingon in the near future, you may want to ready your credit card.

If I was into this game I would play for the lifetime It only makes sense. Why keep paying for every moth or year when you can pay one fee and be done with it. Personally if you a number of services made you pay for a lifetime subscription I'm sure those services would have more members.
It's a bummer that the lifetime is only for a limited time but if you get in on that deal you have won.

And to think theres still some dumbass people out there that think XBL's $50 a year fee is expensive. Actually, I pay $30 a year for it and that is nothing compared to what mmo players pay a year.

If Star Trek fails you will lose your $239.99 just like those that paid out for lifetime subscriptions in Hellsgate:London. If you don't mind losing the money then it might be worth it. I rather pay three months at a time. If you pay the lifetime sub and it shuts down that is one expensive program you will never get any enjoyment from unless you can play LAN to LAN.
