Sony is locking and loading one of its most established shooter franchises for this fall, as Zipper Interactive has revealed SOCOM 4. Players of the developer's other war-themed title, MAG, needn't worry, as Zipper stated it is "still fully committed to supporting MAG."

Zipper Interactive confirms SOCOM 4, 'still fully committed to supporting MAG'

Rumors have been circulating over the past few days that Sony was planning to unveil a "surprise sequel," and if today's revelation of SOCOM 4 is said sequel, color us surprised. Fresh off the completion of MAG, the developers at Zipper Interactive have returned to their roots and will be developing the series they've been developing since 2002.

The first screenshots and details were unveiled by Zipper Interactive's Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham. The single player campaign will put you in the shoes of an Ops Com who must command a five-man squad to help quell a military uprising in South Asia. The series' highly-regarded multiplayer will return in full force, as Dunham has stated that SOCOM 4 will include 32-player online play. Fortunately, gamers enjoying Zipper's latest multiplayer shooter won't be left behind, as Dunham made sure to reiterate in the announcement that Zipper is "still fully committed to supporting MAG for a long, long time."

You can see the first images of the game in our SOCOM 4 screenshot gallery, and expect a debut trailer for the game tomorrow. MAG players, does this new announcement worry you at all? SOCOM fans, how is this game looking to you?

so MAG is one and done? i have MAG and i thought it was a great new IP.

Socom 4 is great news tho (cod and dice might have something to worry about a little)

i cant wait to play it.

Yeah I was scared at first by this statement. But as long as they continue to support MAG 100%, im just fine with it.

MAG is a nice little game for a few hours, was better then Socom Confrontation. You know what Socom use to be one of Sony strongest titles they offer in gaming , until they decided to let outside developer handle it instead of Zipper Interactive.which was a big mistake. I'm just happy Zipper is back to where they belong, wouldn't be to hard to see some 230-300 player action done on PS3 now that they had there first crack at the system

PS: please come out in 2010

I find it very funny how zipper can make an amazing game on the PSP then suddenly half a s s their way to the PS3 shows how lazy they are really

COD (IW) will have something to worry about but Battlefield (DICE) is on its own level which is much higher then COD will ever be.

I do hope that SOCOM 4 is not another online only gaming. If it is the fan base will just continue to decrease in size. I miss the old SOCOM days (PS2).

I think Zipper just wanted to show the world that a developer could make a 256 based multiplayer game. They said that they will support MAG but for how long is the real question.
