Harmonix announces Rock Band 3
- March 09, 2010 12:58 PM PST
The Rock Band franchise is set to expand yet again, with Harmonix announcing today (via Facebook) that Rock Band 3 will be available this holiday season. No further details are available yet.
Harmonix announced on its Facebook page today that the company "is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"
Though not unexpected, this also signals a renewal of faith in the franchise from Electronic Arts as the publishing giant's publishing contract with Viacom/MTV Games was originally set to expire this month. This also comes after Electronic Arts has made statements regarding scaling back its EA Partners program.
GamePro will speak with Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos at GDC later this week, and will have more details on Rock Band 3 soon.

I thought the whole point of RBN was that there would be no need to keep cranking out sequels. Surely establishing Rock Band as a platform, rather than a retail release means it could live on indefinitely. I'm kinda disappointed to see this.

Wow what a suprise and way to milk it more than it already has been. Maybe a disk of new songs or dlc but do we really need another $250 instrument bundle just 1 year after the other one came out? I personally hate when games in a series keep getting pumped out every year. Just getting into the groove playing the old ones then WHAM out comes the new one. I prefer the anticipation of waiting a few years between releases not this every 12 months pump out a sequel. That always seem the ways companies do it these days and ruin good series like Tony Hawk,Madden,Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Any Lego game, soon to be Call of Duty. I understand they got to make a profit but it hurts them in the long run when people get sick of them running a series into the ground with to many releases.

well a new disc is not a bad thing, we will probably see some new features and some new sets/stages to play and some other new things that we probably wouldn't be able to get through dlc
