About Me

I am currently a student at Mars University, where I am a member of Robot House. I eat things when I get nervous, and after an encounter with a hookerbot in Tijuana, I caught a computer virus and had to be rebooted.

#5 - Earthbound (SNES)

Placing an RPG in a modern setting with a heavy dose of bizarre humor was a risk for Nintendo resulting in one of the biggest cult hits of all time. The story of Ness and his friends fighting the evil Giygas and his minion Pokey was filled with laughs, genuine emotion, some homosexual references, and digging through trash to find items. While the battles are standard RPG fare, zany enemies like the animated pile of vomit, Master Belch, and the New Age Retro Hippie made them memorable. Earthbound's quirkiness and fun have always kept it among my very favorite games.

#4 - Super Mario World (SNES)

While many people say Super Mario Bros. 3 is the king of 2D Mario games, I believe Super Mario World is the true king. Working off of the level/world map used in SMB3, Super Mario World made nearly all levels replayable, often with a secondary way to complete it. Add to that the challenging Star Roads, nearly impossible Special Zone levels, more difficult castles, and harder enemies, and you had a great system seller. And this is to say nothing of Yoshi, the loveable enemy-eating dinosaur. SMW made me want a SNES, and remains one of my most beloved titles.

#3 - Super Metroid (SNES)

As bounty hunter extraordinaire Samus Aran, you are tasked with rescuing the baby metroid who helped you at the end of Metroid II from Space Pirate kidnappers. Exploring Planet Zebes brings back memories of Metroid, while showing off what the SNES could do graphically and aurally. The gameplay and pacing are flawless, the boss fights are intense and memorable, and the final battle between Samus and Mother Brain is perhaps one of the best choreographed moments of the 16-bit era. Super Metroid is a joy every time and goes out with a blast, sending it into my number 3 slot.

#2 - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)

One game ends and another begins, and you are thrown into possibly the best Action RPG ever made as Dracula's son, Alucard. Sadly your dad's old buddy Death shows up to steal your awesome items, but it's a blessing in disguise: you now have a lot of reasons to explore every last bit of the beautifully-made castle for new weapons and armor, improve your stats and abilities, and maybe solve a mystery or two, all the while hearing one of the 32-bit era's best soundtracks. And just when you think you're done with another game... look out the window.

#1 - Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Chrono Trigger, a game so incredible that 25-100 words seem insignificant in their ability to proclaim such greatness. From the history-spanning and altering tale to the combination abilities with your teammates in non-random battles, from the artistically beautiful and personality-filled characters and levels to the equally wonderful music, Chrono Trigger is gaming perfection. 53 words for that... let's try for something shorter:

Fat_bot's Favorite Game Ever. 4 words, same sentiment.
