I think part of what drives so many people to play Mega Man is that it's the gaming equivalent of soul food. Perhaps it's not always the tastiest meal, but it's part of our heritage as gamers to go back to a time when a game was, for all intents and purposes, maybe 20 minutes of gameplay if condensed. But the sheer difficulty turned those 20 minutes into 20 hours, and though games are less sadistic nowadays (for the most part), it's nice to get some of that old flavor so many of us were brought up on.

I liked the point about reaching an emotional connection through sheer hatred. Finally beating a level that killed you repeatedly is like punching a bully then watching him cry and wet himself. And it's that very personal accomplishment, more than any achievement or trophy can give, that makes it worthwhile.

this is pretty much how i feel about 90% of the nes-era-type megaman games...always tough and frustrating, but you always come crawling back...

I think the nostalgia and "comfort food" aspect that Fat_Bot and fenix0640 spoke to, what makes Mega Man 10 so interesting is what it says about the current state of gaming. Technology has improved and game design has matured to the point where we're now seeing games like Heavy Rain that offer a truly (and I hate this word but must use it) "immersive" experience. But games need to get better at actually making us feel something, and getting us to fully invest ourselves in the action. Again, Mega Man 10 does it in a roundabout way, but it still evokes this genuine response, and that's something worth celebrating.

I started on easy mode. I beat this game in 1 hour and 25 minutes. That's the WHOLE game from start to finish. I died 3 times TOTAL. THE WHOLE GAME! That's shorter than it took me to beat on level in Mega Man 9! Easy mode is TOO EASY. Normal mode is about right. Still, there was a time when they knew how to balance out the challenge in a Mega Man game. Not anymore, it appears.
It's a pretty generic walk in the park, and it's probably the ugliest Mega Man in terms of graphics. Even for an NES of game. Still, I love Mega Man and I really enjoyed it, but it kind of felt like a beta instead of a finished game.

I loved this video! I have had those moments before but only in Mega Man 9.

I agree with what sammykewlguy stated about a time with the developers knew how to "balance out the challenge in a Mega Man game." - I adored MM2 and MM3 and still play them to this day for the sheer fun factor and challenge.
However, unlike the original MM which was dubbed as a difficult game, 2 and 3 had a proper balance where the major difficulty was selecting the correct rock/paper/scissor of the enemy and having enough energy and weapon energy to complete Wiley's castles.

In 9, the levels themselves turned into death traps and bosses sometimes were a walk in the park, something I was not used to. However, keep in mind, there is a store in the game where you can go into battle with 5 plus energy tanks, extra lives etc. so maybe the developers used that as the balance.

Still very fulfulling when you beat a level though!

I lol'd when it showed there emotions. That happens to me sometimes too. XD

Easy mode is way too easy. I beat the whole game in an hour and a half and died twice. That's the WHOLE game. But then normal mode was too hard. Gee, can't the get the balance right? It's a great game anyway and I love Sheep Mans music. It really grows on you....
